ABANDONED

Venezuela lives a historical conjuncture of exacerbation of humanitarian needs. With a hyperinflation that has reduced the value of the official currency to zero. The shortage of everything from medicines, to drinking water and fuel has caused a notable deterioration in the quality of life of Venezuelans. Many have sought to emigrate seeking a better opportunity, leaving parents and grandparents behind.

Many of the ones left behind alone, struggle to survive. With no help from the state and no resources to treat their illness, the old are abandoned to die.

“I feel abandoned. I have nothing left but this. It’s so hard. I wish I would just die” - Enrique Martinez before he died of a prostate cancer he never knew he had. Without access to medicines or resources, the diagnosis came when it was too late.
